The Sabres are starting veteran Alex Lyon in goal after Luukkonen was pulled in the third period of a 4-2 loss to the Bruins in Game 2, tying the series at 1-1.
Luukkonen allowed four goals on 19 shots, including a dribbler from centre ice by Morgan Geekie.
Luukkonen (35 games) and Lyon (36 games) rotated much of the season before Luukkonen took over the No. 1 role late in the year.
Lyon (2.77 goals-against average, .907 save percentage this season) struggled in his last three starts, giving up 13 goals, including three in his last start when he was pulled after less than six minutes. He also was sidelined late in the year with a strained lower-body muscle.
Lyon does have post-season experience, starting three games for the Florida Panthers in their run to the Stanley Cup Final.
