The Oilers will have Trent Frederic back in the lineup for Thursday night’s game (9 p.m. ET, 7 p.m. MT, Sportsnet West, Sportsnet+) against the Chicago Blackhawks.
Frederic, 28, has not played since a March 19 game against the Florida Panthers due to an undisclosed injury.
“I’m just excited to get playing again,” Frederic told reporters Thursday morning. “I think it was not ideal to take a break, I thought I was playing well. We did a lot of good stuff, and I think I’m in better shape than before.”
Frederic has struggled in Edmonton since being acquired prior to the trade deadline last season, notching five goals in 90 regular-season and post-season games.
The six-foot-three, 221-pound forward inked an eight-year, $30.8-million extension with the club ahead of the 2025 season.
He has just four goals and two assists while averaging 10:45 of ice time in 67 games this season.
“I just think I’m skating better, being physical, more engaged,” added Frederic on what he liked about his game before getting hurt.
